Abstract

The aim of this article is to examine the issues surrounding the formation and development of stress resilience during adolescence. It explores the interrelationships between physiological and psychological stress, as well as the factors that influence adolescents’ ability to cope with stressful situations. The research methodology is based on a combination of philosophical principles (systemicity, dialectical contradiction, the unity of quality and quantity, dialectical negation, development, causality, etc.) and general psychological principles, alongside the methods of systematicity, scientific rigour and verification. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that, using the method of analysing the scientific literature and the results of empirical research, an analysis has been carried out of stress resilience and the factors that cause stress in adolescents. Conclusions. Among the main factors, physiological, behavioural, subjective and socio-psychological aspects are identified, as well as types of stress. Particular attention is paid to the importance of social factors in enhancing stress resilience, specifically the role of normal functioning within the social environment and adequate support from adults. These factors significantly contribute to reducing the level of psychological deprivation and strengthening adolescents’ ability to overcome psychological difficulties. The article also examines the stages of developing stress resilience and proposes specific approaches to providing socio-psychological support to adolescents. The author describes stress resilience as an integral characteristic of the personality, which determines an individual’s ability to adapt to new circumstances and minimise the harmful effects of stressors. This trait is important for maintaining health and ensuring high levels of productivity in adolescents. It is noted that the issue of developing stress resilience during adolescence is currently a cause for serious concern. A large number of stressors have a negative impact on adolescents’ physical and mental well-being, as well as on their academic performance, whilst preventive measures remain insufficiently effective. The findings of this study complement practising psychologists’ understanding of how psychological defence mechanisms influence stress resilience. They may assist in identifying new avenues for developing and refining strategies to cope with the stressful situations typical of the current generation of adolescents
