Abstract

The central person of the educational process is the child, with his individual characteristics, character, next to whom there should always be a role model, i.e. the teacher. In the period of elementary school age, the general development of the child takes place, the ability to read, write, knowledge of the basics of arithmetic, primary skills of using information sources is ensured; the formation of general ideas about the surrounding world, the assimilation of norms of universal morality and communication, the basics of hygiene, the development of the first work skills. One of the main tasks during this period is the task of teaching younger schoolchildren to independently master knowledge. Achieving the level of education and personality development required by society is impossible without systematic independent work, which in the learning process is the most important prerequisite for full mastery of knowledge, abilities and skills. The ability to learn independently can be formed only through the acquisition of personal experience by the child. The student always shows purposefulness, makes efforts to complete the task correctly. So, the article draws attention to the role of independent work in the process of educational activity of younger schoolchildren, in particular in the process of forming mathematical competence, the pedagogical ideas of prominent educators regarding this type of work are explored. The concept of independent work and its features are revealed. Psychological and pedagogical sources from the research problem, ways to increase the effectiveness of the educational process are determined. It has been proven that independent work will contribute to the solid assimilation of new knowledge and the generalization of existing knowledge. Didactic and developmental potential is outlined. The principles of organizing the independent work of elementary school students in the process of forming mathematical competence are substantiated. As a result of the analysis of didactic views on the essence of students’ independent work, it was proved that independent work plays a major role in the formation and development of educational skills, education of will, and cognitive interest. It reveals the individuality of each student, develops their intelligence and character. All this contributes to the assimilation of deep and solid knowledge. Independent work plays a major role in the formation and development of academic skills, education of will, cognitive interest, and collective work skills. It reveals the individuality of each student, develops their intelligence and character. All this contributes to the assimilation of deep and solid knowledge. Therefore, the problem of students’ independent work as an effective method of forming the ability to learn, self-education skills is relevant, and therefore this topic was chosen.
