ROLE EXPECTATIONS OF SPOUSES AS A FACTOR IN THE FORMATION OF FAMILY CLIMATE UNDER MODERN SOCIAL CHANGES

Abstract

The aim of the study is a comprehensive analysis of the influence of spouses’ role expectations on the formation of the family climate under modern social changes, particularly in the context of martial law in Ukraine, and the identification of key factors that determine the effectiveness of family interaction and the psychological well-being of spouses. Methodology. The methodological basis combines general scientific approaches of systemness, development, and unity of psyche and activity with specific thematic methods of psycho-pedagogical analysis of family relationships. Methods used include analysis of scientific literature, results of previous psychological studies, and contemporary approaches to the systematization of family roles and behavioral models of spouses. Scientific novelty. For the first time, spouses’ role expectations are systematized as a complex factor in shaping the family climate amid social and cultural transformations. The influence of egalitarian and authoritarian family models on role congruence is highlighted, and the psycho-emotional consequences of mismatched partner expectations are identified, including increased conflict, emotional distance, and reduced relationship satisfaction. Integrated recommendations are presented for enhancing family-role compatibility and adaptive distribution of responsibilities, considering social challenges and limited resources. Conclusions. It is established that congruent role expectations of spouses are a critically important factor in a positive family climate, enhancing trust, mutual support, and psychological well-being of partners. Mismatched expectations lead to role conflicts, tension, and destabilization of family relationships. The study emphasizes the need for a conscious approach to forming family roles, developing communication skills, and enhancing spouses’ psychological competence to maintain stability and harmony within the family system.
