FORMATION OF THE NATIONAL IDENTITY OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS IN THE CURRENT CONDITIONS

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study and investigate the formation of the national identity of higher education students in modern conditions. The object of the study is the formation of the national identity of higher education students in Ukraine, the subject of this study is the pedagogical conditions that influence the formation of the national identity of higher education students in Ukraine. In the article, the authors consider the actual problem of forming the national identity of higher education students in the conditions of modern Ukraine. The authors of the article define the concept of “national identity”, substantiate its importance for young people, analyze the factors that influence its formation, and propose measures for its effective formation in higher education. The research methodology is based on the analytical method, sociological and empirical methods. The scientific novelty of the study is that for the first time the peculiarities of the formation of national consciousness of students of Khmelnytskyi National University, Melitopol Bohdan Khmelnytskyi State Pedagogical University and Berdiansk State Pedagogical University in the current conditions are investigated. It is noted that national identity is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that includes knowledge about one’s country, its history, culture and traditions, as well as a sense of belonging to one’s people and their values. It has been established that national identity is important for young people, as it helps them to form their own system of values and beliefs, realize their role in society, and feel that they belong to a particular community. Conclusions. After conducting a study among students of higher education institutions, the authors found that national identity is extremely important because it helps students to form their own system of values and beliefs that will determine their attitude to the world and society; promotes a sense of pride in their people and country, which is important for motivation to study and professional growth.
