THE ROLE OF RIVERS FOR THE CITY OF VINNYTSIA, THEIR ECOLOGICAL CONDITION AND WAYS TO IMPROVE IT

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify the role of small rivers and the Southern Bug River for the city of Vinnytsia, their historical significance for the development of the city, and to analyze environmental problems related to the current state of the economy, the causes of the deterioration of water quality, and the increase in physical, biological, and chemical pollution. Based on the research, urgent measures are proposed to improve the ecological condition of the city’s small rivers and the Southern Bug, protect and restore coastal areas, and improve the wastewater treatment system of municipal utilities and industrial enterprises. Research methodology. The object of the study is the small rivers and the Southern Bug River in the city of Vinnytsia. Statistical materials, schemes of use, pollution and protection of surface waters of the city’s rivers, reference books and methods of ecological assessment of water quality were used. The main research methods are analytical, descriptive, statistical, comparative, and monitoring. The scientific novelty of the work lies in a comprehensive analysis of the ecological state of small rivers and the Southern Bug River in Vinnytsia and a subsequent assessment of the implementation of the latest measures to prevent further negative ecological changes in urban water bodies. Conclusions. The article examines the role of rivers for the city of Vinnytsia and provides a comprehensive analysis of the ecological state of small rivers and the Southern Bug River in the city in order to determine their quality and identify approaches for further restoration and conservation. It describes a number of environmental problems related to their current state and proposes recommendations for the implementation of comprehensive measures to further improve the industrial and municipal wastewater treatment system and conduct active environmental awarenessraising work with the population.
