INDUSTRY SPECIFICITY OF FORMING FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF SPECIALISTS IN INTERNATIONAL HOTEL BUSINESS

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to determine the content, structure, and functions of foreign language communicative competence of future specialists in international hotel business, the place and role of the intercultural component as an integrative part of personal development, which ensures effective professional interaction in the conditions of the globalized market of hospitality industry. The research methodology is based on a complex combination of methods of analysis and synthesis, comparative method, descriptive method, classification and generalization, as well as modelling method, which have been applied for the study of scientific literature on professionally oriented foreign language communicative competence, comparative research of different approaches to the interpretation of the given concept, identifying structural elements of foreign language communicative competence, highlighting the role of the intercultural component in the process of its development. The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive study of methods of foreign language training of future specialists in international hotel business and development of a model to form students’ foreign language communicative competence in the field under study. Conclusions. Foreign language communicative competence is a complex multifaceted formation that encompasses linguistic, socio-cultural, pragmatic, strategic and emotional- psychological components. Its theoretical and practical mastery is of great practical importance in international hotel business, since communication in a foreign language determines the quality of service, the level of customer satisfaction, and the reputation of the relevant accommodation facility. Students should learn not only to understand another culture, but also to be able to conduct a dialogue, avoid stereotypes, and demonstrate tolerance. The proposed model of forming foreign language communicative competence is based on the principles of authenticity, interdisciplinarity, integration with professional training, and focus on the development of intercultural understanding. It can be used at developing and improving educational programs, thematic content of academic disciplines’ syllabi in higher education institutions.
